Finance representatives at Carf resign from their positions – 12/20/2023 – Panel SA

Finance representatives at Carf, the taxpayers’ appeals council, handed over their positions this Wednesday (20).

The president, Carlos Higino de Alencar, was not present and the joint resignation letter was delivered to the secretary general. In total, it included 48 counselors. There are now only 22 judges left.

As Panel SA reported, the auditors’ departure was planned as a demonstration against the breaking of an agreement reached with the government regarding the payment of the efficiency bonus.

For the vice-president of Unafisco Nacional, Kléber Cabral, the unprecedented resignation of counselors results from the “disastrous initiative of the Federal Revenue Secretary, Robinson Barreirinhas, in his desire to prevent the right to strike.”

The category was at a standstill due to non-compliance with the agreement, but the Treasury, through the AGU (Attorney General of the Union), obtained a decision from the STJ minister Regina Helena Costa, which determined the resumption of the Carf trials, maintaining parity (between members of the government and taxpayers) per session.

According to Unafisco, the legal action ended up making the sessions unfeasible, in addition to the potential annulment of tens of billions of reais in trials without the quorum defined by the STJ.

The Treasury expected to raise around R$50 billion with the trials foreseen in Carf by the end of this year.
