Four Argentine fans were taken to the Special Criminal Court (Jecrim) at Maracanã after the fight. All those involved were interviewed by the Civil Police and only one, at first, managed to prove that he did not participate in the confusion in a mixed area of the stadium.
Many Argentines complained about the lack of space in the South Sector, where fans gathered to watch the clash with Brazil. In the end, all the detainees were released.
In the Disciplinary Committee’s investigation, it was assessed that the CBF management made a mistake in not separating Argentine fans in a specific location. Instead there was a mixed sector, including the so-called “barra bravas”, those organized in Argentina who follow the current World Cup champion team around the world.
Qualifier Classification
On the field, Argentina beat Brazil 1-0, with a goal from defender Nicolás Otamendi. With the result, Lionel Scaloni’s team remained at the top of the Qualifiers, with 15 points.
The Brazilian team is in sixth place, with just seven points.
