Fernando Ferretti, an outstanding Brazilian futsal coach, died at the age of 69. The causes of death of the carioca were not disclosed, who had been admitted to a hospital in Joinville for a few weeks.
The news was lamented by the CBFS (Brazilian Futsal Confederation), by several clubs and by athletes managed by the professional. Falcão, considered by many as the greatest name in the history of the sport, referred to him as his “father in sport”.

Ferretti is the coach with the most titles in the National Futsal League. Five-time champion, he lifted the trophy four times for Jaraguá do Sul and once for Santos. He is also the record holder of triumphs in the Brazil Cup, with 11 achievements.
The carioca also managed teams like Joinville and Corinthians, where he set up the base of the team that would become national champion in 2016. He was the coach of the Brazilian national team in the 2004 World Cup and took third place, with a defeat in penalties for champions Spain in the semi-finals.
The multi-champion had been acting as coordinator of the ENTF (National School of Futsal Trainers, linked to the futsal confederation and endorsed by the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation).The CBFS established a five-day mourning period.
“His dedication, his knowledge and his passion for futsal were fundamental for the development and success of the Brazilian team, as well as for the evolution of futsal as a whole”, says the note published by the confederation.
“His tireless work as a coach and his commitment to technical excellence left indelible marks in the history of the sport. His leadership inspired generations of athletes and coaches, contributing to the strengthening and popularization of futsal”, concludes the CBFS.
