Fernando Diniz dedicates the title of the Guanabara Cup to women and praises Gabriel Pirani: ‘I had the conviction to put it on’

Fluminense won the Guanabara Cup after beating Flamengo 2-1 this Wednesday at Maracanã. And on a special day: that of women. So much so that coach Fernando Diniz dedicated the achievement to them during the press conference. The coach also praised midfielder Gabriel Pirani, author of the tricolor title.

– I am very happy to be my first title in this house. It’s not my first, I’ve earned minor titles that people disregard when it’s convenient. But for me, there are much more important things in life than the work of those who do it with justice, clarity… May titles always be the result of a job well done, by many hands. Fluminense has a very large disproportion in terms of income compared to our rival and other rivals, but with a lot of work we manage to overcome this disadvantage. We know that the season is just beginning, the Campeonato Carioca ended the first part and it will start again with a super tough game, probably on Sunday against Volta Redonda – he said, after offering the title to his family:

– I want to thank my players, staff, work of many hands. We know that tomorrow we have to show up for training in the afternoon, having more respect for Volta Redonda (opponent in the semifinal), but until tomorrow afternoon we’re going to have a celebration. I want to dedicate this title to women, we know how important they are, and especially to my women: my wife Simoni, my daughter Caroline and in memory of my mother, who is no longer with us, but was a warrior who raised eight children in the arm – celebrated.

changes in range

– I think it lacked a little more to have the face that the team has, the best Fluminense. Having a little more daring to play, having the pleasure of playing football and taking the risks that we have to take. Pirani, hero of the title

– Pirani is a young man, one of those who needs a little attention and affection, which I like to give. He had already worked at Santos, before leaving he was one of the highlights in my passage. He was very convinced, he is a different kid, very polite, he arrived very well trained, so I had a lot of conviction to put him on. André’s move to the defense was also to push the team further forward, because André does that very well, and Lima is getting more and more comfortable with the team. So the changes were very clear to me, when I was finishing the first half, of what I was going to do.

Calculated risk?

– It ended up working out. Obviously it could have gone wrong, but in life you have to take risks. It was a clear enough risk for me to take, and things worked out.
