Federal Police target scammers on four fronts – 01/21/2023 – Power

The Federal Police operates in four lines of investigation to investigate all the facts and people related to the coup attacks and vandalism carried out by supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) on January 8.

The ex-president, the ex-Minister of Justice Anderson Torres and authorities who acted or omitted during the coup attempt are in the sights of these investigations.

The investigations intend to detail how the preparations and invasions of the Planalto Palace, the National Congress and the STF (Federal Supreme Court) took place and target the coup plotters acting directly in the breach, the financiers and the public agents involved.

The first line of investigation focuses on the possible masterminds of the coup attacks, and it is this front that could lead to the eventual responsibility of the former president in promoting radical actions.

Bolsonaro was already one of the targets of the digital militias inquiry because of his performance in the live on July 29, 2021 —when he raised without evidence suspected fraud in the elections through flaws in the electronic ballot boxes— and for the leak of a confidential inquiry about a hacker attack on the Superior Electoral Court.

In the case of digital militias, each of the events with the participation of Bolsonaro and his supporters, such as the live, the anti-democratic acts of 2020 and others, are seen as being carried out by a criminal organization that acts to attack institutions, authorities and spread disinformation. .

Now, with this new investigation, the PF intends to move forward on how its coup attempts inflated its supporters against the democratic rule of law and led to attacks on the three Powers.

The second line of investigation will invest in detailing the alleged omissions of public agents during the movement of people to the camp in front of the Army headquarters and then to the Praça dos Três Poderes.

Former minister Anderson Torres, retired governor Ibaneis Rocha (DF-MDB) and members of the Federal District security forces are targets on this front.

Torres has been in prison since the 14th by order of Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF. During a search and seizure at his home, the PF found a draft (proposal) of a decree for then-President Bolsonaro to establish a state of defense at the TSE headquarters.

The coup decree foresaw the creation of a commission controlled by the Bolsonaro government to carry out an “assessment of the conformity and legality of the electoral process” won by Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and established the breaches of “secrecy of correspondence and telematic communication and phone” of TSE members.

As shown to Sheet, Fernando de Sousa Oliveira, former number 2 of the Public Security of the Federal District, told the PF that Torres had left the country on the eve of January 8 without forwarding a “guideline” or presenting him to the commanders of the police forces and to Ibaneis.

Seen as more time consuming, the third front aims to map the financiers of the coup acts and those responsible for the logistics of the camp and transport of Bolsonaristas to Brasília.

In the last week, the PF acted against possible financiers of coup plotters in the northern region of Rio de Janeiro. The action was named Ulysses and arrested three people suspected of organizing and financing the trip of Bolsonaristas to Brasília.

The PF’s objective now is to map other funders of the acts and the camp in front of the Army HQ in Brasília to find out if the Bolsonaristas’ actions had any structure of financing and organization.

Investigators are identifying everyone who hired and organized bus trips to Brasilia, those involved in maintaining the camps at Army HQs, and everyone who somehow made the attacks possible.

The AGU (Advocacia-Geral da União) has already asked for the blocking of R$ 18.5 million in assets of individuals and companies suspected of involvement in the coup attacks. The amount would be an estimate of compensation for damage caused by acts of vandalism in Congress, Planalto and STF.

The fourth focus of the PF investigation is vandals. Investigators want to identify and individualize the conduct of each of those involved in the depredation of historic buildings in the federal capital.

In this case, the PF expertise has been working with the help of artificial intelligence software to compare the images of the invaded buildings with those of the prisoners and also with other databases to identify those involved. 1,459 suspects were arrested in flagrante delicto for the coup attacks.

To subsidize the four lines of verification, all the information that is being collected, through the channels made available by the Ministry of Justice and the PF or in steps taken by order of Minister Alexandre de Moraes, are analyzed and forwarded to the open inquiries.
