Manaus (AM) – The Federation of Commerce of Goods, Services and Tourism of Amazonas (Fecomércio-AM) held, on the afternoon of this Monday (16), a meeting with representatives of ports, terminals and intermodal transport to discuss the drought and the difficulty of dock at the ports of Manaus.

This Monday, the Rio Negro reached a level of 13.59 meters, the highest level in history. Directly affecting riverside communities, the drought makes the daily lives of Amazonians difficult and compromises local commerce. The main objective of the meeting was to find palliative actions to minimize the impacts of the drought and raise awareness among authorities.

“With this further extension in the time it takes for goods to arrive, we will have a very large decapitalization of companies that pay ICMS in the system. It’s another detail that we have to talk about, because all of this is a cost”,

said Aderson Frota, president of Fecomércio AM.

The points presented as urgent at the meeting were the dredging of the mouth of the Madeira River and the reconstruction of the BR-319, a highway that plays a vital role in integration with the rest of Brazil, facilitating the transport of goods and people, in addition to enabling flow. of agricultural, industrial and commercial production in Amazonas, as explained by the president of the federation.

“At the moment when the goods, through the river river, need to leave Porto Velho, the vessel does not have the capacity to navigate through the sandbanks and due to the lack of dredging, which is essential at this time. During the meeting, we learned that DNIT already has an approved program for carrying out this dredging that needs to be done urgently”,

explained the president.

Businessman Luiz Gastaldi, founding partner of Grupo Nova Era, reported that for ten days ships have been returning with cargo because they are unable to dock at the ports of Manaus and that there has already been a high demand from customers for food in recent weeks, especially perishable food. and frozen foods, and expressed concern about the possibility of shortages of some products on supermarket shelves.

“We noticed an increase in sales. I believe that it is already a fear among the population with shortages, which are unfortunately imminent. It will depend a lot on the return of the waters and also on a problem that, when vice-president Alckmin was here, he promised that the solution would be to dredge the rivers, but it has been days since he came and this dredging seems to have gone badly. will and good will will not solve the problem”,

explained the businessman.

The meeting, led by the president of Fecomércio AM, Aderson Frota, brought together representatives from Porto Chibatão, Aliança Navegação e Logística, Log-in Logística, Super Terminais, Transportes Bertolini, Frette Intermodal, as well as directors of the entity, presidents of employers’ unions, businesspeople of Amazonas and class entities such as the Federation of Industries of the State of Amazonas (Fieam) and the Commercial Association of Amazonas (ACA).
