Father Júlio’s lawyer talks about taking legal action – 01/07/2024 – Panel

Lawyer for Father Júlio Lancellotti, former federal deputy Luiz Eduardo Greenhalgh (PT-SP) states that both he and the parish priest are calm with the CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry) proposal presented by councilor Rubinho Nunes (União Brasil).

As the Panel revealed, it could be installed in February, even though it has lost strength in recent days, given the strong negative repercussion, which brought together parliamentarians, parties, and institutions such as the Archdiocese of São Paulo itself.

Greenhalgh claims that he has established a limit to the attacks that have been made by the councilor on the priest. If he exceeds them with slander, defamation or insult to honor, legal measures will be taken.

“He is a councilor who no one knows what projects he has done. It’s an election year, nullities need to get on the backs of recognized people, create cases, establish political facts to see if they can escape anonymity”, he says.

Nunes filed the request to open the CPI in December, with signatures from 24 councilors, and received positive signals from the Chamber’s leadership regarding its installation in February. She is viewed favorably by Milton Leite (União Brasil), president of the House, main guarantor of the investigation.

The commission still needs to be considered in the college of leaders and in plenary before it can be installed.

The councilor intends to investigate the Nossa Senhora do Bom Parto Social Center, known as Bompar, and the Craco Resiste collective. Both work with the homeless population and drug addicts in the central region of the city and became targets of the CPI due to the link they allegedly had with the priest.

The priest told the column that he has no influence on the entities and does not work on joint projects with them. He stated that he has not been on Bompar’s board for 17 years and that he held an unpaid position on the entity’s deliberative council.
