Export agency has directors appointed by Bolsonaro – 05/20/2023 – Panel

The ABGF (Brazilian Agency for the Management of Guarantee Funds and Guarantees), a public company responsible for insuring exports with high added value, continues with its president and a director appointed by former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and close to paralysis.
The situation worries members of the government, fearful that the scenario could start to harm Brazilian foreign trade.
The background to this delay in replacement was an arm-wrestling match between the Ministry of Finance and the MDIC (Ministry of Development, Industry and Commerce) over who would have influence over the nominations. MDIC sources claim that Vice President Geraldo Alckmin (PSB) gave up in favor of the portfolio headed by Fernando Haddad.
The agency has two directors: Fabiano Maia, from the Administrative and Financial Directorate, and Octávio Bromatti, from the Guarantees Directorate, who accumulates the function with the presidency.
The first has been with the public company since September 2022, with a salary of BRL 43,844.30; the second, since January 2020, with remuneration of BRL 46,036.51. The mandate is annual, but has been successively renewed.
According to the Panel’s findings, one of the companies most concerned about the lack of definition is Embraer, whose exports require ABGF guarantees.
Sought, the Farm did not respond when it intends to make the substitutions.
