Ex-Coritiba, Kazu renews contract with Portuguese team at the age of 56

Japanese striker Kazuyoshi Miura, Kazu, who at the age of 56 is the most veteran player still active in the world, will continue to defend Oliveirense, in the second division of the Portuguese Championship, as announced this Tuesday (11) by the club.
In a publication on social networks, Oliveirense confirmed that “King Kazu”, as he is nicknamed, will return to play for the team from the north of Portugal next season.
The player, who passed through Santos, Palmeiras, among other Brazilian clubs, arrived at Oliveirense in January this year, loaned by Yokohama FC, which is owned by Grupo Ondera, also owner of the modest Lusitanian team.
The Japanese legend played just 27 minutes in three games for Oliveirense, with the player cheering every time he entered the pitch.
Kazu, who will play his 38th season as a professional, last season became the oldest player to play in Portuguese football.
In the most recent match he played, the Japanese played for 20 minutes and was honored with the captain’s armband and received the award for best player on the field.
Born in 1967, Kazu played for Santos, Palmeiras, Coritiba, among other Brazilian clubs, in addition to having played for Genoa, in Italy.
For the Japanese national team, the striker made 91 appearances and scored 51 goals.
