The Evangelical Parliamentary Front of the National Congress defined, this Wednesday (9), an agreement between federal deputies Silas Câmara (Republicanos-AM) and Eli Borges (PL-TO). The two parliamentarians will take turns in command during the first and second half of the year, Borges will take over in the first six months and the Chamber in the last months, and the relay will also continue in 2024.

The agreement was signed by the evangelical deputies, after the difficulties and discussions in the election of the bench presidency, held last Thursday (2). A new election had been scheduled for this week, due to inconsistency in the number of votes. For the first time, there would be a dispute with four parliamentarians, but deputy Otoni de Paula (MDB-RJ) and senator Carlos Viana (PL-MG) gave up their position.

The first to take command of the bench this year will be deputy Eli Borges, who was the spokesman for the evangelical bench last year. In an interview with Gazeta do Povo last year, he said that his biggest challenge was to prevent the advancement of guidelines such as neutral language, gender ideology, health passport and legalization of marijuana.

In the second half of the year, Silas Câmara repeats the position, having already presided over the bench in 2019 and 2020. The deputy has good transit between different churches and has already mediated an agreement between Sóstenes and deputy Cezinha de Madureira (PSD-SP), which would have avoided a crack in the bench last year.
