Escola Djalma Batista receives a visit from a Japanese digital influencer to chat with students

The influencer chatted with students from different classes talking about various subjects, from favorite foods to life in Japan

The Japanese digital influencer Tsuyosahi Yamaguchi and the photographer Eliana Yamaguchi participated in a chat with students from the Full Time State Schools (Eeti) Professor Djalma da Cunha Batista and Jacimar da Silva Gama, both in Japiim, south of Manaus, this Wednesday (09). Djalma Batista, which received the action in the unit’s auditorium, was the first public school in Brazil to offer bilingual Portuguese-Japanese teaching.

Owner of the YouTube channel “Ola Guti”, the influencer has more than 300 thousand followers and met with some of the students from 5th to 9th grade, from Elementary School, from Djalma Batista, and from 1st to 3rd grade, from High School , by Jacimar Gama.

The manager of Eeti Djalma Batista, Luís Centurião, spoke about how excited the students were to meet the Japanese digital influencer and about his mastery of the Portuguese language, which made interaction with students even easier.

“He is an attraction for our students and they were very motivated by his visit to the school. He got to know the facilities (of the school), interacted with the boys and had a chat to learn a little about their reality. Students from different classes were selected so that they could meet and have this conversation with Guti. In addition to Japanese, he speaks Portuguese and that made it very easy to interact with the students,”

This week, Jungle Matsuri takes place, a Japanese music and cuisine festival promoted by the Nipo-Brazilian Association of Western Amazonia (Nipakku), the digital influencer came to Manaus to participate in the activity and stopped by the school to meet her.

Guti talked to the students about various issues such as cultural differences, language issues, among others. He said he was very curious about the school when he heard about the Japanese-Portuguese bilingual teaching and very happy when the students came to talk to him using the Japanese language.

“I was very curious to know the school and today I came. I’m really excited to meet the students. I’ve already talked to some who came to talk to me in Japanese, I was happy and at the same time surprised, it was really cool”,

spoke the influencer.

Photographer Eliana Yamaguchi, who is also married to an influencer, accompanied him throughout his visit to the school. She is responsible for filming Guti’s videos. Eliana highlighted that she left the country as a child and that when she returns, she is rediscovering the country with Guti.

“I went to Japan when I was 10 and I’m back now when I’m 30, married to a Japanese man. We are touring all over Brazil and I am rediscovering the country with him. I had no idea there was a Japanese-Portuguese bilingual school. I’m really enjoying getting to know you. I thought it was incredible to be a public school and that it gives students this opportunity to learn another language. I’m really enjoying it”,

Elena told.

Excitement and Expectations

Many of the students present in the chat already knew Guti, either on Youtube or Instagram. Others don’t; but even so, they were excited to welcome him to Djalma Batista. One of these students was 12-year-old Caio César Pinheiro. A student in the 6th grade of elementary school, Caio said he loved meeting the influencer and how fun the lecture was for him.

“I really enjoyed the lecture and I loved meeting Guti. I was really looking forward to meeting you. The lecture was a lot of fun. Hope he comes again. It is an honor to have a very famous person from Japan here at our school.”said the student.
