“Equal pay bill is a victory for women”, says Malafaia – News of Brazil

the federal deputy Dorinaldo Malafaia (PDT) celebrated the approval – by 325 votes in favor, 36 against and three abstentions – of Bill (PL) 1,085/2023, the so-called ‘PL for equal pay’, in the Federal Chamber, this Thursday, 4.
The PL was announced by the president Squid, on the last March 8th, and its approval changes the Consolidation of Labor Laws (CLT), seeking to guarantee wage equality between men and women who perform the same functions.
Even though the Constitution already prohibits discrimination based on gender, sex, race, color or age, in practice women in Brazil still receive lower wages than men, even if they perform the same or similar type of work.
“This is our historic commitment. Unfortunately, there is still a lot of injustice, discrimination and exploitation of working women. The PL that we approved must be supported, understood and implemented by modern entrepreneurs and supervised by all of us. This approval is a victory for Brazilian women.”declared Dorinaldo.
One of the novelties that the law brings is the obligation that companies with more than one hundred employees have to publish semi-annual transparency reports, which will demonstrate whether the salaries paid and functions performed by men and women are compatible.
In case of irregularities, a fine of 3% of the value of the company’s payroll will be applied, limited to one hundred minimum wages.
The matter was sent to the Senate, where it will also be processed on an urgent basis and has 45 days for its approval and subsequent sanction by the President of the Republic.
