Enem has more than 4.6 million pre-registrations

The National High School Examination (Enem) system received 4,673,333 pre-registrations, according to data from the National Institute of Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira (Inep). The deadline for registration for the test ended last Friday (16). According to the institute, the number represents an increase of 8.2%, compared to 2022, when 4,318,324 registrations were registered.

The Minister of Education, Camilo Santana, celebrated the number and stated that the brand reverts “a historic downward curve”.

“Inep received 4,673,333 pre-registrations for this year’s Enem, reversing a historic downward curve. We are working so that our young people can dream of more opportunities again, so that they can earn their university degree”,

said the minister on social media.

The total number of people registered for Enem has been falling since 2017, when 6.1 million people signed up. In 2022, that number dropped to almost half, with just over 3.3 million candidates. The latest data released by Inep may represent a break in this trend, which may or may not be ratified after registration is confirmed.

To confirm enrollment, non-exempt candidates must pay the R$85 fee by next Wednesday (21). After this deadline, Inep will have the final number of registrants for the exam.

The amount can be paid by pix, credit card, direct debit or bank slip generated on the Participant’s Page.

To pay for Pix, the candidate just needs to access the QR code on the ticket.

Those who are exempt do not need to pay the fee. Of the total enrollments, 2,155,238 (46.1%) had the exemption approved and candidates will take the exam for free, according to Inep.

Evidences

The tests will be applied on November 5th and 12th across the country. The edict with the schedule and rules for Enem 2023 was published at the beginning of the month.

The public notice lists the necessary documents and the participant’s obligations, including situations in which the candidate may be eliminated.

The templates for the objective tests will be published on November 24 on the Inep portal. The individual results will be released on January 16, 2024 on the same website.

The exam

Enem evaluates students’ school performance at the end of basic education and is the main form of access to higher education in Brazil, through the Unified Selection System (Sisu) and initiatives such as the University for All Program (Prouni).

It is also used by public and private educational institutions to select students, with the results being used as a criterion in selection processes. The exam also serves as a parameter for accessing government aid, such as the Student Financing Fund (Fies).
