Computer manufacturer Dell will not promote employees who only choose to work from home, according to a report by the American website Business Insider.

In February of this year, the company established that it was necessary to be present at the office at least three times a week. It is still possible to remain in a 100% remote format, but with punishments.

Anyone who continues to work from home every day of the week will not be eligible for promotions or changing positions, according to the report published on the American website in March this year.

“For remote team members, it is important to understand the advantages and disadvantages: career advancement, including applying for new roles within the company, will require a team member to be reclassified as an on-site hybrid,” says an internal company document to which the magazine had access.

Contacted by Business Insider, the global company said that “personal connections combined with a flexible approach are essential to driving innovation and value differentiation.”

Also according to the report, Dell employees would be condemning the new policy internally, as many live hours away from offices, even in other states.

For some of them, the new rule would be a way for the company to force resignations, amid a series of layoffs in the technology sector.

According to data from Bloomberg, Dell laid off 13,000 employees in the last fiscal year.

“Throughout fiscal year 2024, we continue to take certain steps to reduce costs. Despite these difficult decisions, we continue with focused efforts to train our employees and attract, develop and retain talent,” said the company when commenting on the numbers that point to a drop in computer sales.
