The Brazilian Embassy in Palestine hired a psychologist to provide assistance to Brazilians who are surrounded in the Gaza Strip. Consultations have been held virtually, despite unstable internet access and limited availability of electricity.
The professional has offered advice to parents on how to provide safety to children, taught breathing exercises to deal with anxiety and insomnia and provided guidance on how to act in the event of a sudden evacuation and how to deal with trauma.
The psychologist has also sent messages of comfort, through a WhatsApp group, to Brazilians who are waiting for a solution for their repatriation.
As the column showed, the group of 28 Brazilians in Gaza were sheltered in a Catholic school. The Lula government has already asked Israel not to bomb the site.
Despite being sheltered, information received by diplomacy shows that the situation of Brazilians is desperate. They have been living on cheese, bread, jam and thinly sliced meat. “A banquet under current conditions”, says a person who is in direct contact with them.
Diplomats who are closely monitoring the situation warn that the group could die of starvation if the Brazilian government’s attempt to evacuate them from the territory across the border with Egypt fails.

Food stocks from Unrwa, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, will only last another four days. This is the food that reaches Brazilians.
Unrwa, according to the same diplomats, distributes food to around half of the population of Gaza, which is suffering a relentless blockade by Israel.
Food, in normal times, is obtained through donations, including from Brazil. In the war, however, Israel has blocked all entrances to the territory, and food is not arriving.
Israel has already warned that there will be no electricity, food or even water in Gaza while Hamas holds hostages in the territory. Lula has already asked in a letter that Israel create humanitarian corridors for the exit of civilians from Gaza, and also for the entry of food.
Other countries, such as Egypt, also ask for security for humanitarian aid access to Gaza. So far, in vain.
