Elimination makes Flamengo the fourth Brazilian to fall in the semifinals of the World Cup

Flamengo lost to Al-Hilal by 3-2 in the FIFA Club World Cup this Tuesday (7). With the defeat, Rubro-Negro joins Palmeiras, Atlético-MG and Inter as the only Brazilian clubs that fell in the semifinals of the competition.

The team led by Vitor Pereira suffered early in the match when they committed a penalty in the third minute and were already behind on the scoreboard. Still in the first stage, Pedro tied the match, but in addition Gerson committed another maximum penalty against Fla and was still expelled.

The second half started with the team from Rio de Janeiro with a setback on the scoreboard and with one player less. Despite Flamengo trying in every way to draw, who managed to score once again was Al-Hilal, who bet on counterattacks. When the lights went out, the number 9 reduced the Saudis’ advantage, but it wasn’t enough.

With the result, Mengo awaits the match between Real Madrid and Al-Ahly – this Wednesday (8), at 4 pm – to find out who will face in the dispute for third place in the World Cup.

Inter faced Mazembe, from the Democratic Republic of Congo, and was surprised by the African team. Despite being superior during the confrontation, this did not result in goals for the Gauchos. On the other side, Mazembe held on in defense and counterattacked with great speed.

As a result of this, the Africans won the match 2-0 and reached the final of the competition for the first time.

ATLÉTICO-MG vs. RAJA CASABLANCA

Galo earned a place in the FIFA championship after having won the 2013 Copa Libertadores by beating Olímpia, from Paraguay. Atlético’s campaign went down in history, as this was the club’s first continental competition title. However, the World Cup dream was cut short in the semifinals.

Ronaldinho Gaúcho’s team -who didn’t have a very inspired night- were unable to break through Raja’s defense nor were they safe enough to avoid the Moroccan counterattacks. With that, Atlético was defeated by 3 to 1 and did not play in the final against Bayern Munich.

Alviverde went to the World Cup after beating Santos in the 2020 Libertadores final, which took place in January 2021 due to the covid-19 pandemic. As a result, the FIFA competition was held just a week after winning Liberta.

The match was very disputed, but Palmeiras presented a football below expectations. In addition, the Mexicans still had a failure by Luan at the beginning of the second half, when he made a penalty on Carlos González, resulting in the only goal of the confrontation.
