Eletrobras adds R$ 17 million to an advertising contract – 05/17/2023 – Panel

In the sights of the government Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) since it was privatized, Eletrobras added 57% to the contract with an advertising agency, which went from R$ 30 million to R$ 47 million.
One of the objectives, according to the company, is precisely to show the public that it is now a private company.
On May 5, the AGU (Advocacy General of the Union) asked the STF (Federal Supreme Court), in a legal document signed by Lula himself, that the Union be entitled to votes proportional to the percentage it still holds of Eletrobras. Although it owns 43% of the company, a section of the law that paved the way for its capitalization restricts its weight to 10% of votes.
On May 9, four days after the government triggered the AGU, Eletrobras closed an amendment of R$ 17 million to the Artplan agency.
When contacted, the energy company informed that the advertisement has “the objective of re-presenting Eletrobras, now a private corporation, focused on the development of Brazil’s integration based on its transmission system and renewable energy”.
Since taking office, Lula has not spared criticism of privatization; he has already referred to the process as “slutty” and “bandit”. The Minister of the Civil House, Rui Costa (PT), has already stated that the sale has “a bad smell of immorality”.
The agency’s hiring process began in December 2022, after an election campaign period marked by criticism from PT members of the company’s capitalization. The competition concluded in February.
