The election for the Paraná Football Federation (FPF), scheduled for Saturday (11), at 9:30 am, in a hotel in Curitiba, must have a single ticket.

The opposition ticket, Futebol Forte Paraná, had its candidacy rejected, last Thursday (9), by the Electoral Commission of the Paraná Football Federation. Led by former player, Ribamar José Denis, the ticket did not obtain the minimum of 20 signatures required by Federation regulations.

Only Nacional, an amateur club from Curitiba, supported Futebol Forte Paraná. And, even so, there was a problem pointed out by the Electoral Commission in relation to the lack of signature recognition by the National signature.

Opposition paves way for “Cury Dynasty”

The challenge of the opposition slate opens the way for the election of Hério Cury Filho, son of the current president, Hélio Cury, who cannot run again after having fulfilled the maximum limit of three terms.

Headed by Hélio Cury Filho, the status slate, “Confiança e Inovação”, has the support of 57 clubs, including professionals, amateurs and municipal leagues, out of a total of 65 clubs eligible to vote. Coritiba and Paraná, for example, are among the supporters. Athletico has yet to make a statement.

However, there is still the possibility of the election ending up in court. Last Monday (6), a request to challenge Cury Filho’s ticket had already been filed by Nacional, the only club to support the opposition ticket.

“I waited for the summons, and yesterday we presented a legal challenge to the elections, saying that the amateur clubs and leagues are not able to vote. Nacional is contesting. If they do not accept the request, we will go to the judiciary to suspend the election”, he stated. the president of Nacional, who is also a lawyer, José Francisco Cúnico Bach, 73 years old.

Opposition plate arguments

Cúnico took two points as a basis for disagreement. “According to the Federation’s statute, only clubs that have played in the last two championships can vote in the election, but amateur clubs and amateur leagues did not play in championships in 2021, due to Covid-19, so they are unable to vote” , he stated.

The amateur championships were suspended during the pandemic and only returned last year. To change the bylaws, an ordinary general meeting is required. And, according to the president of the amateur team, there was only general approval within an accountability meeting.

Nacional’s second argument is based on the Nepotism Law. “Hélio Cury Filho cannot run for office. The current president already had to dismiss relatives years ago, for using the Public Ministry of Labor against him. Even within the status slate, there is another irregularity, an auditor of the Court of Sports Justice is included,” explained Cúnico.
