Deputy Tabata Amaral (PSB-SP), who is trying to create with other parliamentarians the Mixed Parliamentary Front for Education, said that the bench will not “waste time” with “ideological agendas” and will have a “more aggressive” stance against homeschooling. In an interview with UOL, published this Wednesday (29), Tabata also said that, in her opinion, civic-military schools “are not justified”.

“The idea is to be a little more aggressive, facing homeschooling, cuts in higher education, accusations of corruption, dedicating ourselves to advancing proposals that make a difference in education,” he said. Bill 3179/2012, which regulates homeschooling, was approved by the Chamber of Deputies and is awaiting the designation of a new rapporteur by the Federal Senate.

Regarding the National Program of Civic-Military Schools, despite the good results achieved, the deputy believes that the initiative is ideological and without foundation. “From a technical point of view, these civic-military schools are not justified. It is a mistaken interpretation, the problem is not moral and ideological. Education is not taken seriously in the country,” she said.

Over the past four years, Tabata has participated with other parliamentarians in an External Commission on the Ministry of Education (MEC), being one of those responsible for reports critical of the educational policies implemented during the administration of President Jair Bolsonaro.

One of the latest reports brought misleading data about the National Literacy Plan (PNA) – a Bolsonaro government initiative praised by the OECD for following the most advanced research in reading and writing. The PNA, discontinued during the Lula government, followed the literacy method of Sobral (PE), praised by Tabata in his autobiography.

In that same document, Tabata and other deputies took a position against the National Textbook Program (PNLD) 2023, for not following the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC) – the program was more demanding for quality textbooks than the BNCC – and it did not include topics such as “diversity”.

In 2021, Tabata Amaral tried to suspend the PNLD 2023 through a bill claiming, among other things, that it lacked to include in the content indicated for children aged 6 to 10 years, themes such as gender and “respect for homo and transphobia”. The initiative led to a public discussion on social networks with the former Secretary of Basic Education at the MEC, Ilona Becskeházy, one of the country’s leading education specialists, who worked for 10 years at the Lemann Foundation and studied Sobral’s curriculum in depth. The deputy’s bill was declared unconstitutional by the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Deputies and returned.
