Eduardo Pazuello calls for the creation of a plan to protect synagogues in Brazil

Federal deputy Eduardo Pazuello (PL-RJ) filed, this Monday (16), a request with the Chamber’s Public Security Committee asking for the creation of a plan to guarantee the security of synagogues in Brazil.
The proposal talks about “preserve the security of Jewish temples in Brazil and, thus, guarantee the right to freedom and religious worship in Synagogues existing in the national territory”.
In the request, Pazuello suggests that the Ministry of Justice and Public Security coordinate, plan and execute a policy.
The document was filed amid the most recent conflict between Hamas and Israel, which began on October 7. To date, 4,208 deaths have been recorded, of which 2,808 are Palestinians and 1,400 are Israelis, the vast majority of whom are civilians.
In the request, the deputy cites a request made by Khaled Mashal, one of the founders of the Hamas group, for Muslims around the world to start a “jihad” (term for a “holy war”) against Jews.
“The conduct of such strategies and actions, at the federal, state and municipal levels, under the coordination of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, contributed greatly to confronting possible terrorist threats and, consequently, to guaranteeing the security of Brazilian society, especially , of Jewish citizens in this country, Brazilian or not, guaranteeing them the right to freedom and religious worship in Synagogues existing in the national territory”,
states the deputy in the request.
Among the suggestions made by the parliamentarian are:
- strategies and actions that integrate intelligence vectors, including international bodies;
- strategies and actions that integrate intelligence and operational vectors, both police and military at the national level, establishing an anti- and counter-terrorism operations command, even if temporary; It is
- Public Security actions aimed exclusively at the safety of Jewish citizens in Brazil, whether Brazilian or not.
The Public Security Commission has a deliberative meeting scheduled for this Tuesday (17). The item is on the board’s agenda along with more than 50 proposals.
