The governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite (PSDB) announced on his Twitter that he had made a representation against former deputy Jean Wyllys. Leite compared Wyllys’ speech to previous episodes, in which he suffered homophobic attacks from Roberto Jefferson (PTB) and “insinuations of bad taste” from then-president Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
“Now, when Jean Wyllys also attacks a decision I made as governor, he may not agree, have another view, but try to associate this decision with my sexual orientation and even sexual preferences, I must also file a representation against him. In fact, I made this representation”, says Leite, who is also the national president of the PSDB.
Jefferson was sentenced by the Rio Grande do Sul court to a fine of R$300,000 for offenses against Leite, to be paid as collective moral damages to the Fund for the Reconstitution of Injured Goods.
Last weekend, Wyllys commented on Leite’s decision to maintain the civic-military schools in Rio Grande do Sul, saying that “gays with internalized homophobia in general develop a libido and a fetish in relation to authoritarianism and uniforms.” Leite responded by saying he was sorry for Wyllys’ ignorance.
The former deputy is affiliated with the PT and seeks a position in the government’s Secom (Secretariat for Social Communication). Minister Paulo Pimenta, however, told the Panel that he did not know dates or details about the nomination, and did not respond when asked if it would be 100% certain.
Leite has maintained a cordial relationship with Lula since the election. He received Lula, Janja –who would be the sponsor of a possible nomination of Wyllys for a position at Secom– and Pimenta for lunch at the Piratini Palace on June 30, alongside her boyfriend, doctor Thalis Bolzan.
