Federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) said that he is not considering running for mayoralty in São Paulo next year and that he supports the candidacy of his colleague Ricardo Salles (PL-SP) for the post.
“I am withdrawing my possibility of being a candidate [a prefeito de São Paulo]because I understand that Ricardo Salles is more qualified”, said Eduardo in an interview with SBT.
According to the son of former president Jair Bolsonaro, Salles has “great identification with the city of São Paulo, he was once a member of the state executive, an excellent minister of the environment and one of the most voted deputies in the last election”.
He added that Salles would be the best name to face Guilherme Boulos (PSOL), but noted that this definition will still undergo internal negotiations in the PL.
“It is a whole collegiate that will decide for us to really chance Ricardo Salles and for him to be the Bolsonarist candidate for mayor of São Paulo”, he said.
Despite Salles having launched himself in the PL, the party has also been courted by the current mayor of the capital, Ricardo Nunes (MDB), who will seek re-election.
He has even held meetings with the party’s national president, Valdemar Costa Neto, and should count on publicist Duda Lima, who did Bolsonaro’s TV campaign last year.
