In the central region of São Paulo, the Sete de Abril building – designed by architect Ramos de Azevedo and opened as the headquarters of the Brazilian Telephone Company in the 20th century – will undergo a project to revitalize its architecture by Metaforma Incorporadora. The ground floor will provide space for a gastronomy complex, the food hall called Ramal, in the República neighborhood.

Work will begin this year. Kauê Fuoco, from Kura, organizes the latest artistic interventions, with band and DJ, at the address this Friday (12th) and this Saturday (13th), at 8pm. Individual tickets cost R$180 and include food. Drinks must be purchased separately.

In addition to residential apartments with floor plans between 25 and 125 mtwo on the upper floors and a commercial gallery with bookstores, shops and services, the future development will house spaces run by renowned chefs, which have not yet been announced, explains Rosa Moraes, the site’s gastronomic curator, to Sheet.

For her, the idea is to create an area that represents the multiculturalism of the São Paulo metropolis, made up of people from various regions of the world and the country, highlighting national and international cuisines and products.

“The center is a place with many immigrants from all regions and they mainly bring their typical foods. In our opinion, the best way to understand local culture is through gastronomy”, adds Katherina Cordás, also curator of the space.

The project is coordinated by architects Herbert Holdefer, from 134 Office, and Alexandre Salles, from Estúdio Tarimba. In an interview with the report, Holdefer detailed that the food hall will have references from Market Novo, in Belo Horizonte (BH) – an environment with bars and restaurants in a building designed in 1960 and later revitalized.

“It won’t be divided or look like a shopping mall. It’s more of a plaza concept”, he says. According to the professional, there will be landscaping interference and also an opening in the ceiling, which will connect with the apartments located above the building.

“We want the Ramal to also have an educational character, to be a starting point for people to get to know the center of São Paulo. We want them to meet, learn about the city’s history and continue getting to know the region”, he highlights.
