The week was marked by the celebrations of World Ecological Tourism Day, also called Ecotourism, a vocation for Amapá as a tourist destination, according to Sandro Borges, a tourism guide with more than 20 years of experience in Amapá. He gave an interview to the program ‘LuizMeloInterview’in radio Daily FM (90.9), when he talked more about segmentation.

He explained that just as guides can take visitors to see tourist attractions within the city, it is through contact with nature that this experience is usually enhanced.

“We take tourists to Ilha de Santana, very close to the capital, where they can do the trail [da Samaúma] that exists there, or you can travel through the interior of the state, where you can camp, visit rapids, check out the pororoca, in short, everything that ecological tourism provides in our state”explains.

Ecotourism or ecological tourism is defined by the Ministry of Tourism as “a segment of tourist activity that uses, in a sustainable way, natural and cultural heritage, encourages its conservation and seeks to form an environmental awareness through the interpretation of the environment, promoting the well-being of populations”.

Ecological tourism is characterized by contact with natural environments and the carrying out of activities that promote the experience and knowledge of nature, in addition to aiming to protect the areas in which ecotourism occurs. Simply put, ecological tourism can be understood as tourist activities that are based on a sustainable relationship with nature and its conservation.

It is a very useful tool for empowering local communities around the world to achieve sustainable development. Currently, it is the fastest growing branch of the tourism industry.

It is a rate of 15 to 25% annual growth. In addition to a turnover of around 70 million dollars in Brazil alone.
