Brazilians’ passion for American football has been growing significantly, year after year. Today, there are more than 35 million fans in the country, according to a study by Ibope Repucom. But, in addition to following the North American NFL (National Football League) games more and more closely, the Brazilian public has also made the coin spin.
In the run-up to the Super Bowl, New Era, the league’s official baseball cap brand, reported a 13% growth in sales of its exclusive line of NFL licensees. The survey compares numbers from January 2023 against the same period in 2022, a month marked by the final matches of the American and National conferences of the tournament, which precede the big decision that takes place this coming Sunday (12).
Another fact that draws attention is the sales performance of items from the season’s finalist teams, which include caps, jackets and T-shirts, among others. Philadelphia Eagles merchandise increased output by 190%, like-for-like, while Kansas City Chiefs merchandise increased by 34%.
In an expanded cut, comparing the entire NFL season (September to January), the Eagles had 17.9% more items sold in the country in 2023. The sale of Chiefs products grew by 4.3%.
