The distance learning modality already receives 2 out of every 3 students who enter higher education in Brazil. The data is from the 2022 Higher Education Census, released this Tuesday (10) by the Ministry of Education.
According to the census, of the 4.7 million who enrolled in undergraduate courses last year, 65% were distance learning.
In 2022, distance learning registered more than 3.1 million entrants – 97% of them went to private colleges.
The first time that distance learning outperformed in-person course entrants was in 2020, during the pandemic. That year, those entering distance learning courses represented 53% of the total. In 2022, this proportion will already exceed 65%.
After losing entrants during the pandemic, in-person courses increased again last year. In 2022, 1,656,172 new students entered these courses — in the previous year, in 2021, this number had fallen to 1,467,523.
