Gilbert ‘Durinho’ asked the UFC to dispute the ‘BMF’ belt (toughest fighter) in his next fight. The Brazilian fights Jorge Masvidal on April 8, in New York, for the welterweight division (up to 77.1 kg).
From his official ‘Twitter’ account, the Brazilian fighter asked UFC president, Dana White, for the ‘BMF’ belt to be up for grabs and change the number of rounds in the fight, increasing it from three to five. It is noteworthy that Masvidal won the title of ‘toughest fighter’ in the year 2019 after beating ‘bad boy’ Nate Diaz. After that, he never put his brace on the line again.
“Come on, Dana White. April 8th has to be five rounds! Put that belt (BMF) on the line! Everyone knows that there’s only one guy in the UFC that fights anyone”, wrote the Brazilian on the social network.
Currently ranked fifth in the Ultimate 77.1 kg ranking, ‘Durinho’ had his last fight against the American Neil Magny, on January 21st on card number 283 of the UFC. He won without much difficulty, knocking out his opponent in the first round.
In an exclusive interview for the Ag Fight portal, Burns explains the reason for asking for the belt. (in the ranking) and I fought Wonderboy (Stephen Thompson), who was number five. Then I fought Khamzat (Chimaev), who was number 11 or 12. Now I fought Neil Magny, who was number 12. I’m going to fight Masvidal, who’s back there. I’ll fight anyone. And even before that, they offered a fight with two weeks (in advance) against an undefeated Russian, they offered a fight with two weeks there in Denmark against Gunnar Nelson , and I pick fights. I don’t pick fights,” said the jiu-jitsu black belt.
During an interview for the ‘MMA Hour’ podcast, a program integrated with the North American website ‘MMA Fighting’, Masvidel answered ‘Durinho’ about his requests for the fight.
“If they paid me BMF money, but the UFC won’t raise the bid, then I’m sorry Gilbert. I already got my contract. I already signed my sh*t. I couldn’t care less. Three rounds is more than me I need for Gilbert. I like all the publicity and all the extra he’s putting into this fight, but brother, three rounds is all I need,” replied Masvidal.
The American fighter is going through a bad phase, losing his last three fights, two of them to former category champion Kamaru Usman – and the most recent to his main rival, Colby Covington.
Scheduled for April 8 of this year, in New York (USA), the 287th edition of the UFC will feature a confrontation between two of the main names in the welterweight division. While the Brazilian occupies the fifth place in the ranking of the category, the American appears in 11th.
