Novak Djokovic could return to compete in a tournament in the United States for the first time in two years.
The US Senate approved this Thursday (30) the end of the state of emergency in the country due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The vote is in line with statements by President Joe Biden, who should formalize the decision and promote the end of restrictions as of May 11.
The decision benefits Djokovic. Currently, the tennis player is prevented from entering the United States for being a foreigner who has not been vaccinated against Covid-19.
Djokovic could play the US Open in August. The Serb requested an exception to compete in the Masters 1000 in Indian Wells and Miami this month, but his request was not granted.
US HISTORY
The Serbian tennis player has not played any tournament on American soil since 2021. On the occasion, Nole reached the US Open decision and lost to Daniil Medvedev.
Djokovic has already won the US Open three times: 2011, 2015 and 2018. He was also defeated in six other finals, the grand slam in which the Serbian accumulates the most runners-up.
