How about learning a little about this emblematic element of Japanese culture, green tea? The exhibition “Nihoncha – introduction to Japanese tea” continues until April 7th at Japan House (Avenida Paulista, 52 – Bela Vista, São Paulo) with free entry.
The exhibition provides an overview of Japanese tea production, presenting samples of tea varieties, traditional and contemporary utensils designed by Japanese designers, as well as a tea house made of 3D printed wood, the Tsuginote Teahouse. Designed by Japanese architect Kei Atsumi and French architect Nicholas Préaud, it is made up of more than 900 wooden pieces that are fixed together using fittings, without the use of glues or screws.
And look how cool it is: patissier chef Cesar Yukio will teach a free* workshop on Ochauke, the name given to the sweet that accompanies Japanese tea, on the 19th and 25th of January, at 10:30 am and 2:30 pm. During the event, the public will have an introduction to the ochauke and you will be able to prepare your own sweet to enjoy with a cup of tea.
* Spaces are limited and tickets will be available for collection at reception 30 minutes before the activity.
The Bunkyo Cultural Space will host “Shinnenkai, a Japanese tradition to welcome the new year” this weekend, January 20th and 21st. A great opportunity to discover the arts that celebrate New Year in Japan, such as Ikebana (floral arrangement), the Chado (floor Shodo (calligraphy), art Koguei (ceramics) and, of course, gastronomy.
In addition to events such as the tea ceremony (with advance reservations), there will be restaurants offering dishes such as sushi, temaki, yakisoba, gyoza, only ice cream (perfect this summer), crepes, teas and sweets, as well as a variety of drinks.
