Deputy Captain Augusto (PL-SP) sent the President of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), a letter proposing the creation of a working group in the House to study and formulate a proposal to improve the country’s criminal execution law .
The legislation aims to implement what is set out in a criminal sentence or decision and provide conditions for the social integration of the convicted person. The text provides that the prisoner will have the right to material, health, legal, educational, social and religious assistance.
According to the parliamentarian, there is support among deputies from left-wing parties for the review of the law. “Nobody can take this reworking of the police anymore,” he says. “You arrest the same person several times for the same reason. How many times have we had the concrete fact of a person being arrested for the 20th time in the act of armed robbery and being on the street again? There are people that we have already caught in the state of São Paulo who had 90 criminal cases and were on the street, released by the courts.”
The deputy also states that the law on criminal executions would be a first path and that it would also be important to review the Penal Code and the Code of Criminal Procedure. “But the law on criminal executions is completely outdated. As long as the criminal doesn’t feel the weight of the hand of justice and see that crime really doesn’t pay, it’s not worth it.”
