Deputy Júnior Favacho, from MDB, made a statement, this Tuesday (19), at the Legislative Assembly of Amapá (Alap), in which he called on the state’s political class to unite against the possible increase of 44.41% in electricity tariff charged by CEA Equatorial in Amapá. According to the parliamentarian, this increase is unfeasible in a state with a large number of unemployed people, and it is crucial to look for alternatives to avoid further harm to the population.

“The people of Amapá cannot support this increase of 44.41%. He is priceless. In our state, 70,000 unemployed people struggle daily to pay their energy bills. I have spoken to traders who are considering closing their businesses due to difficulties in paying the Equatorial tariff. Imagine this readjustment. Both the government and the federal bench spoke out against this increase, but we need to come together to ensure that the people of Amapá do not have to bear this expense”, declared Júnior Favacho.

The deputy highlighted the need for Amapá to follow the example of Pará, which managed to reduce the increase proposed by the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) last year due to political mobilization. “In Pará, Aneel proposed an increase of more than 20%, which was reduced to 10% thanks to strong pressure from the state government. There, Equatorial also distributed the increase more equitably, relieving consumers with less purchasing power. But here, without large consumers, the population is unable to pay this percentage.”

The Extraordinary Tariff Revision, presented by Aneel on September 15, is provided for in the concession contract of CEA Equatorial, the company responsible for supplying electricity in the state. If the proposal is approved in public consultation, the electricity tariff in Amapá will be the highest in the country, surpassing Pará. In less than two years, the average tariff paid by Amapá residents will increase by 86%.

Furthermore, Júnior Favacho took measures to benefit Amapá consumers, presenting Bill 0243/2023 at Alap, which authorizes the state to enter into agreements with Aneel through the Amapá Delegated Public Services Regulatory Agency (Arsap). This will allow the state body to exercise complementary functions of regulation, control and inspection of electrical energy services and installations, currently the exclusive responsibility of Aneel, in addition to creating a technical base on the topic.

Another measure adopted by Júnior Favacho was the presentation of requests to CEA Equatorial, requesting joint actions with the state’s city halls to update registration and actively search for residents registered in the Single Registry (CadÚnico) of each municipality. These people are entitled to the Social Tariff for electricity, which offers discounts or exemptions from some fees to beneficiaries.
