Deputy in MS displays Hitler’s book and has edited speech – 03/07/2023 – Power

State deputy João Henrique Catan (PL) took a copy of the book Mein Kampf (My Struggle), by the Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler, to the plenary of the Legislative Assembly of Mato Grosso do Sul this Tuesday (7) and became the target of attacks after having an edited version of your speech spread across social media.

Catan showed the publication during a speech about the difficulty he would have, as an opposition, in getting information from the Executive.

The deputy attacked the fact that the Assembly has a government majority, saying that the difficulty of accessing data is something similar to what Hitler did with the German Parliament.

Amid criticism of authoritarianism, Catan showed the Nazi publication and said the suspension of its sale indicated a judge “perhaps more dictator” than Hitler – responsible for a totalitarian regime that decimated millions of Jews.

“I was afraid to bring this book into Brazil because at the time, a judge, perhaps more dictator than Adolf Hitler, suspended the entry and sales of Mein Kampf, Minha Luta, Minha História, Minha Vida, by Adolf Hitler, where here he portrays his strategies to annihilate, shoot the Parliament and the rights of popular representation”, he said.

“It is with the presentation of Mein Kampf, of Hitler, that I ask for this Parliament to be strengthened, reconstructed and reorganized in the direction of what the European Parliament of Germany was, and which served, after its reconstruction, as an inspiration, including for us to be here today, through our right Brazilian constitutional law, which is inspired by the Germanic Roman model”, he added.

A video with part of the speech reverberated on social networks as a message of exaltation from the deputy to Nazism. In his official profile, Catan claimed that his speech was distorted and that, in fact, the quote was in criticism of Nazi strategies.

In Brazil, apology for Nazism is a crime provided for by law with imprisonment penalty, according to which it is a crime to use Nazi symbols or propaganda of that regime.

João Henrique Catan became known after firing several shots with a pistol during the vote on a bill of his authorship, last year. The project recognized the risk of the sport shooter activity in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul.

At the time, while remotely announcing the arguments for his vote, the parliamentarian was at a shooting range and stated that the shots were a “warning to communism”.
