Deputy demands more work from colleagues who are only on social networks

Deputy Diego Garcia (Republicanos-PR) stated that conservatism will only advance in Brazil when many right-wing parliamentarians begin to participate in thematic commissions and spend less time on social networks. According to him, deputies from the right avoid participating in commissions that can approve more than 80% of the laws discussed in the Chamber because the function is laborious and demands time.

“Some right-wing conservative parties have vacancies left over in commissions and the deputies do not occupy them. And then civil society has to charge”, said Diego Garcia during the program Capital Matterfrom the People’s Gazette.

He refers to the fact that conservative parties can appoint a certain number of members of commissions such as Education, Foreign Affairs, the Amazon and Native Peoples, but vacancies are becoming idle.

“Why can’t the other deputies? Because it takes time. It needs work and commitment. It is in this sense that conservatism needs to advance,” he said.

According to him, many parliamentarians prefer to participate in commissions that give more visibility, and then publish videos of their speeches on social networks.

Garcia was removed by the Republicans from the MST’s Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry in a maneuver by Centrão to hand over to the government the only CPI that had been commanded by the opposition in exchange for positions and amendments.

“Why did they remove me from the MST’s CPI? Because I fought to be there, otherwise I wouldn’t have been removed. So that’s why we need to fight. Our fight has to make sense,” he said.

Garcia chairs the Parliamentary Front for the Defense of Life and the Family and the Parliamentary Front for Rare Diseases of the Chamber and serves on several committees, including education. He also highlighted the role of conservative parliamentarians in preventing the advancement of agendas such as the legalization of abortion and the use of marijuana.
