Manaus (AM) – State deputy Delegado Péricles (PL) confirmed that the Liberal Party will have a candidate for the position of mayor in Manaus in next year’s municipal elections. The statement, made during an interview held on Thursday afternoon (23), was assured by the parliamentarian after a meeting in Brasília with party leaders and the president of the party in Amazonas, Alfredo Nascimento.

Péricles met this week in the federal capital with the former president of the Republic and honorary president of the PL, Jair Bolsonaro, and with the party’s national president, Valdemar da Costa Neto.

During the interview, on the program Meio Dia com Jefferson Coronel, Péricles said that his name is available to the party for planning the 2024 election, considering that in Amazonas the Liberal Party still has a federal deputy and a state deputy elected who also can be part of this arrangement in the acronym, highlighting that, to date, the name that will represent the party in next year’s municipal elections has not yet been defined.

“I continue doing my job as a state deputy. I am in my second term and I always make myself available and I feel qualified to do so, however this decision cannot come from me, it really depends on a planning meeting, something that is established within the party to define the name that will represent the acronym. I’m not saying today that I’m a pre-candidate for mayor, but I’m at the PL’s orders”,

said Péricles, when asked if he could be the party’s representative for the majority position in the next elections.

Still in the interview, Péricles recalled the meetings with Jair Bolsonaro and Valdemar da Costa Neto, as well as party leaders in Amazonas and Right-wing movements, where the actions that should be followed by the party’s members were discussed, in particular the continuation of the Right-wing work in Amazonas, among other topics.

“My trip to Brasília was precisely to address the party’s issues here in Manaus and other municipalities in Amazonas. What was agreed, by presidents Bolsonaro and Valdemar Costa Neto, is that the PL in Manaus will have a majority candidate. The party’s idea is to create more than a thousand mayors in the cities of Brazil”, said the deputy, explaining that he met with Alfredo Nascimento today and that he reinforced the information, but that the party still does not have a defined candidate.
