State deputy Gil Diniz (PL) interrupted this Tuesday (25) a debate in the plenary of the Assembly on aid to victims of the tragedy of the rains on the north coast to present a question about the clothes worn by women parliamentarians in the House.
Citing the bylaws, Diniz, an ally of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), presented the president of the Assembly, André do Prado (PL), with a point of order, in which he asked whether female deputies who are not “decently dressed” could participate of sessions.
“Any type of clothing or clothing is allowed to female deputies during their stay in the plenary? Can they be removed from the plenary, just like male deputies who insist on remaining in the enclosure without a suit or tie?”, he asked.
Diniz did not mention any names, but his target is new left-wing deputies with whom he has been antagonizing, especially Thainara Faria (PT), known for dressing more informally than average.
Diniz’s speech was refuted in the act by Deputy Professor Bebel (PT). “Sometimes some deputies even came without a jacket and tie and we never made a question of order like that. The House loses when it tries to make a question of order of this level”, said the parliamentarian. Diniz replied, saying that the PT was trying to censor him.
The topic irritated the President of the Assembly, who asked that the matter be closed. “We are in a very important debate, we are talking about the victims of the north coast. I ask that we can continue the discussion”, he declared.
