Deputies rush to create parliamentary fronts – 02/13/2023 – Panel

With the beginning of the legislative year, a race of advisers and civil society organizations also began to collect signatures for the opening of parliamentary fronts. Only one of the WhatsApp groups created to facilitate the procedures had 943 participants until the beginning of the afternoon of this Monday (13) and at least 150 front proposals to be created.
There are groups of different subjects. Deputy Juninho do Pneu (União-RJ), for example, is trying to reach the 171 signatures needed to create the Cyclist Parliamentary Front.
To represent municipalities, the Municipalist Front, the one in Defense of Small and Medium-sized Municipalities, the one for the Fiscal Equilibrium of Municipalities and even a more specific one, aimed at those that are the headquarters of hydroelectric plants, have already been proposed.
One of the messages circulating in the group states that Abin (Brazilian Intelligence Agency) “supports and asks for support” for the installation of the Parliamentary Front of State Intelligence. To make things easier, a QR Code is included with the message that directs you to the page in the Chamber system that allows virtual support. The initiative is the federal deputy Alberto Fraga (PL-DF).
The parliamentary fronts serve to organize the actions of deputies and senators around a theme. Often, they arise from the suggestion of external entities and lobbyists.
To be installed, they need to have at least one-third of the members of each corresponding legislative house — 171 in the Chamber and 27 in the Senate. Therefore, the insistence on subscriptions was not interrupted even last weekend.
The variety of themes and the high number of groups is common. In the last legislature, which ended this year, there were 352 parliamentary fronts in Congress. Most were created in 2019.
