Deltan has already requested the blocking of Lira’s assets – 05/18/2023 – Panel

To escape impeachment, allies of federal deputy Deltan Dallagnol (Pode-PR) are betting on a strategy that depends on a politician already denounced by the former prosecutor.

In March 2017, the then coordinator of Operation Lava Jato denounced the PP and ten parliamentarians and former parliamentarians, including the current mayor, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), for administrative impropriety.

Deltan asked at the time and the Federal Court of Paraná granted the blockade of BRL 7.7 million in Lira, in amounts not corrected for inflation. He went so far as to say that the objective was not to prevent party-political activity, but rather to subject everyone, “including the powerful, under the same law”.

The ex-prosecutor questions the framework of his situation to the Lei da Ficha Limpa. After receiving signals that the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) should not review its decision and that in the STF (Federal Supreme Court) the climate is equally hostile, allies of the prosecutor outlined the strategy to include in the Amnesty PEC a device so that loss of mandate must be supported by both the House and the Senate. Today, it is enough for the deputies to vote.

Deltan, however, is a first-term parliamentarian with little political influence. To be strong, the strategy would have to be adopted by Lira, on the grounds that it would protect parliamentary prerogatives, not just save the former prosecutor. The signs are not encouraging either.

On Wednesday (17), the mayor said that the process would follow the normal bureaucratic procedures, and that the first step would be to forward it to Internal Affairs.
