The defense of the governor removed from the Federal District, Ibaneis Rocha (MDB), asked the minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Alexandre de Moraes to revoke the decision to remove the governor from office. Ibaneis was removed for 90 days, on January 9, after the invasion and depredation of the headquarters of the Three Powers. With the decision, vice-governor Celina Leão (PP) assumed command of the DF.

The document was sent this Thursday (9) to Moraes, reported the Jota portal. The lawyers argue that the decision should be reviewed because, according to them, the investigations showed that Ibaneis “did not participate, omissively or commissively, in what happened” and that “there is no risk to public order in his return to the position of Governor of the District Federal”.

The defense also cites an excerpt from Moraes’ decision that revoked the arrest of the former general commander of the Federal District Military Police, Colonel Fábio Augusto Vieira. He was arrested on January 10 by order of Moraes, at the request of the Federal Police (PF), who pointed out the connivance and omission of local authorities during the acts of vandalism on January 8. The minister, however, revoked Vieira’s arrest on the last 3rd.

The lawyers claim that the removed governor “would not have been directly responsible for the failure of the security actions that resulted in the criminal acts being investigated”. On the night of this Thursday (9), messages obtained by the PF during the investigation of Ibaneis’ cell phone were released. The emedebista reassured the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), when he was asked about the possibility of violent acts in Brasília.
