The medals have three different models, each of them depicting one of the headquarters occupied by the institution throughout its history. The version in vermeil (also known as gilded silver) depicts the current headquarters, the Palace of the National Congress, in Brasília; the silver medal features the facade of the Monroe Palace, in Rio de Janeiro, which was the seat of the Senate from 1925 to 1960; and the bronze medal features the Conde dos Arcos Palace, also in Rio de Janeiro, occupied by the Senate between 1826 and 1925.
With a limited edition, the commemorative medals for the Senate’s bicentenary are numbered on the edge, and have a certificate of authenticity provided by the Brazilian Mint (CMB). The dies used to produce the medals were defaced during an official ceremony, as a symbolic act to ensure limited circulation. “It is a great honor and privilege to participate in a historic event for the National Congress, the Senate of the Republic and for democracy. Today, as a senator and former president of the House, together with other senators, we received this important and representative honor for our actions on behalf of the Brazilian people”stressed the senator.
