Connectivity has changed the relationship between Brazilians and means of transport, whether in the acquisition of a vehicle or in the use of platforms that facilitate travel.

Navigation and transport applications already communicate with the cars, which leave the factory ready to receive new services and updates. The same occurs on platforms developed by automakers, which allow checking the status of the vehicle from a distance and scheduling services.

Companies that invest in this facilitated interaction are featured in the Best of the Internet survey.

The Datafolha survey was carried out between May 2 and May 9, 2023, with 1,558 online interviews. The margin of error is plus or minus 3 percentage points.

Transportation App – Uber

Company promises more transparency to partner drivers

Uber follows, handily, as the most cited in the category. In this year’s survey, the company was mentioned by 69% of respondents.

To maintain its popularity, Uber tries to get to know its partners in Brazil better. In May, the company released a survey that heard from 2,800 drivers and couriers across the country. According to the study, 68% of workers would agree to contribute to Social Security if platforms automate the process.

“The preferences of these workers point to the importance of building a public policy that guarantees more protection without jeopardizing freedom,” says Rafael Alloni, Uber’s government relations manager, in a note.

A few days after the release of the study, Amasp (app drivers association) announced a stoppage of professionals. The objective was to put pressure on companies to increase transfers.

To circumvent dissatisfaction, Uber bets on technology. The company unveiled new features at an event in May. One of the novelties is the tool that shows the areas with the highest earnings trend. There is also the expansion of the security feature to record trips. At the convention, the company promised more transparency about the intermediation fee for the services provided.

Used Cars – OLX

Platform makes a fifth of market sales

The temporary reduction in zero-kilometer car prices has an impact on the used-model segment. Although a greater drop in used car values ​​is expected, sector representatives believe that the market will remain heated.

“The more zero-kilometer vehicles that reach the market, the better it will be for our segment”, says, in a note, Enilson Sales, president of Fenauto (which brings together vehicle dealers).

According to Fenabrave, which represents authorized dealers, sales of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles grew by 6.3% in the comparison between the first five months of 2023 and the same period of 2022.

For every five sales made in this market, one occurred through the OLX platform — the company most remembered in the Datafolha survey among those that offer used car ads. There were 18% of spontaneous mentions.

“On average, the platform accounts for 1.7 million advertisements and 130,000 cars sold monthly, which represents, for the company, 60% of the market share of used and semi-new vehicles announced in the country”, says Flávio Passos, vice-president of autos and OLX commercial.

The executive says that he still sees a lot of room for the used market —which, in his view, is related to sustainability, with the increase in the useful life of vehicles.

Connected Car – Tesla

With no store in the country, the brand is the most cited for global fame

The Tesla Model Y sedan was the best-selling car in the world in the first quarter of this year, according to consulting firm Jato Dynamics. In total, 267,200 units were licensed, with emphasis on the Chinese market. It is the first time that a 100% electric car occupies this position.

The increase in production and the subsequent price reductions boosted sales to the point that Elon Musk’s brand surpassed Toyota and its Corolla.

Even though it is rare to see a Tesla on Brazilian streets, the global fame of the American brand was enough to make it the most cited in the Connected Car category, with 10% of mentions. Among those surveyed, 31% were unable to answer.

“Tesla does not have representation in Brazil. This means that the vehicles sold come from independent importers”, says Liandra Boschiero, from Osten Go. The company brings the models to Brazil both for lease and for sale. One of the cars for sale is the Model S Plaid, which costs around R$ 1.5 million.

Route and Location – Google Maps

Tool now displays more sustainable paths

Navigation services fit the ESG agenda (acronym for good environmental, social and governance practices). In April, Google Maps collected data on trends in the sustainable habits of its users and began to display options such as faster car routes that consume less fuel, in addition to walking routes.

In Brazil, according to the company, the search for paths on foot increased by 57% in the first months of 2023 compared to last year. The demand for areas for trails and walks has also expanded: an increase of 114% compared to 2022.

The company, which was the most recalled by respondents in the Route or Location category, with 51% of mentions, has expanded the use of artificial intelligence. Immersive maps allow you to better explore a neighborhood, with three-dimensional images. The experience, which was presented in May, includes indicators of air quality and weather conditions.
