President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) has a positive assessment in the state of São Paulo below the national average, indicates a new Datafolha survey. His government is approved by 33% and disapproved by 30% of São Paulo, percentages that, in Brazil as a whole, are 38% and 29%, respectively.

The PT’s management is considered regular by 34% of those interviewed in São Paulo, against 30% of the national index. They did not know how to give an opinion, in both surveys, 3%.

The table highlights obstacles for the president in the largest electoral college in the country, which radiates decisions with political and economic impact and where anti-PTism has historically had significant strength. Considering only the vote in the state, Lula was behind Jair Bolsonaro (PL), by 55% to 45%.

To conclude that in São Paulo, proportionally, fewer people answer that the federal government is great or good, Datafolha personally heard 1,806 people in the state, aged 16 or over, in 65 municipalities. The margin of error for both polls is plus or minus 2 percentage points. The most comprehensive conducted 2,028 interviews in 126 cities throughout Brazil.

From a political perspective, the state profile does not differ much from the general picture: the division of opinions remains a reflection of a polarized electoral process, in which Lula won with the tightest margin of votes since redemocratization, just 1.8 percentage points ahead of the rival.

There are also trends seen at the polls, such as greater support for the PT leader in the metropolitan region of the capital and the predilection for Bolsonaro in the interior — the same geographical division that occurred in the vote and approval of governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), an ally of the former president. president.

The metropolitan area, which gave more votes to Lula than to Bolsonaro in the second round, today has 37% of excellent/good opinions, 33% of regular and 26% of bad/very bad, percentages that in the group of other municipalities are 29 %, 35% and 32%, respectively.

Among those from São Paulo who voted for the PT candidate for president, the assessment is more positive not only than the state average, but also the national average measured by Datafolha. The government is seen as excellent/good by 68%, fair by 27% and bad/terrible by 3% of the portion that typed 13 in the ballot box.

Among São Paulo voters who opted for Bolsonaro, the rates are 8%, 33% and 56%, respectively.

In the state as a whole, 56% say that Lula has done less for the country than they expected (the national rate is 51%), while 11% say that he has done more than was expected (in the country, it is 18%). For 28%, it was within expectations (25% nationally).

In his third term, the PT prioritized in the first hundred days ahead of Planalto the return of social programs such as Bolsa Família and Minha Casa, Minha Vida, but slipped in the economic sphere, with the population still feeling the effects of inflation and the market reporting an unstable scenario.

Lula was present in the state with his involvement in helping victims of the storm that left 65 dead on the north coast in February. He acted in conjunction with Tarcísio and proclaimed republican collaboration between rulers even if they have different ideologies and parties.

Despite speeches in favor of collaboration —the governor has already said that the two are partners and that the state depends on the country to do well, and vice versa—, their constituents maintain mutual mistrust.

Among those who voted for Tarcísio in the second round, almost half (48%) evaluate the Lula government as bad/terrible. Another 33% see it as regular. And 15% consider the mandate excellent/good, an opinion expressed by a significant 65% of those who chose Fernando Haddad (PT) in the local election.

Another chapter of the survey reinforces the increased skepticism of Paulistas with the president.

For 54%, he will fulfill part of the campaign promises, but not the majority (nationally, 50% think so). Another 23% say that the PT will honor most of the commitments assumed (in the country, there are 28%).

The rate of those who think he will not do anything is 22% in São Paulo and 21% on average in Brazil.

The percentage of residents of the state who believe that from now on Lula will make a great or good government is also lower than the national level. The group of optimists in São Paulo corresponds to 42%, below the 50% of the general picture. Those who think the government will be regular are 31% (SP) and 27% (Brazil).

Already the prognosis that the management of the PT will be bad or very bad is made by 26% in the state, while in the Brazilian average the answer was given by 21%.

Datafolha also surveyed the opinion of São Paulo citizens on the evaluation of Governor Tarcísio de Freitas after three months: his administration was considered excellent or good by 44%, fair by 39% and bad or terrible by 11%.

For 45%, Tarcísio did less for the state of São Paulo than they expected. Another 37% think it performed exactly what was predicted and 12% that it did more than expected.
