Datafolha: For 7 out of 10, Tarcísio will break promises – 09/04/2023 – Power

The ability of Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) to fulfill what he promised in the campaign is questioned by 7 out of 10 residents of São Paulo, according to a Datafolha survey carried out between Monday (3) and Wednesday (5) of last week.

The share of those who believe that the ally of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) will honor most promises is 25%. Adding the 64% who think that Tarcísio will fulfill most of the platform, but not all, and the 8% who think that nothing will be implemented, we reach a level of skepticism of 72%.

Of the total respondents, 2% do not know how to answer the question.

Report by Sheet in December showed that the governor, elected after almost 30 years of PSDB dominance in the state machine, would have to fulfill a promise every 12 days of his term in order to fulfill the 124 commitments he made when asking for votes for himself for the first time in his life.

For the survey, Datafolha carried out face-to-face interviews with 1,806 people aged 16 or over, in 65 municipalities in São Paulo. The margin of error is plus or minus 2 percentage points.

About to complete this Monday (10) one hundred days in government, Tarcísio has greater goodwill than those who voted for him. The former Minister of Infrastructure came to office with 55.2% of the valid votes in the second round, against 44.7% for his opponent Fernando Haddad (PT).

Among the voters of the victor, the assessment that he will deliver almost all of what he said in the advertisement is above average and hits 39%. Only 13% of those who chose Haddad think so.

Also more favorable, among those who preferred the Republican candidate, are the percentages of those who think he will carry out most of the promises, although not most of them (55%), and of those who believe that he will not honor any of them (5 %).

Expectations in the promises chapter follow the results captured in the government’s evaluation —which is considered excellent or good by 44%, regular by 39% and bad or terrible by 11%. The logic is: the more optimistic the view of management, the greater the commitment to keeping the word.

Within the first group, those who approve the mandate, the opinion that the Chief Executive will carry out most of what he said to get elected reaches 44%, that is, 19 percentage points above the average (25%).

In the opposite portion, that of those who disapprove of the government, the guess that no promise will be fulfilled is given by 38% of respondents, a level 30 percentage points higher than the average (8%).

Tarcísio has sought a republican relationship with the opposition, trying to dissociate himself from the Bolsonarist extremism feared by those who fought him in last year’s election. Despite signs such as the dialogue with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), he is a target of the left in the state.

The hundred days will be marked by an event this Monday to present a balance sheet. In a series of releases that began over the weekend, the Palácio dos Bandeirantes listed achievements in areas such as infrastructure, health, public safety and employment.

Topics such as the unsustainable situation in cracolândia, the transfer of the government’s administrative headquarters to the center of the capital and the privatization of Sabesp, the showcase of an ambitious privatization package, make up the list of priorities, but have progressed at an irregular pace.

On the other hand, one of the promises that were the subject of greater pressure from Bolsonarist militancy was fulfilled, with the sanction of the law passed in the Assembly to overturn the requirement for proof of vaccination against Covid-19 in the state. The governor says he defends individual liberty.
