With data collection it is possible to know the amount of residual frying oil generated in the capital of Amazonas

Manaus (AM) – Data collection from residents of Manaus is part of a research methodology “Use of frying oil for the production of bio-oil in Manaus”, by the scholarship holder of the Institutional Scientific Initiation Scholarship Program (Pibic), Hoxana Glenda Picanço Magalhães, from the Food Engineering course at the Federal University of Amazonas (Ufam).

Professor Wenderson Gomes, research advisor, believes that collecting data from users of this waste is essential for collecting data which, according to him, by obtaining this data, it is possible to know the quantity of residual frying oil generated in the Amazonian capital.

“Usually oil is found in all kitchens, which makes it possible to understand its use, how to dispose of it and how to use this residue”,

said the teacher.

“Scientific data on the amount of residual frying oil in the municipality of Manaus is scarce and/or outdated. In this way, the objective of this research is to verify the amount of residual frying oil generated in this city, which will make it possible to trace possible points of collection of this ‘pollutant’. In addition, these collected data will serve as a basis for estimating the amount of bio-oil that can be generated using this waste”,

justifies Gomes.

“Certainly, this will have a great positive impact in the social, economic and environmental field, enabling a cleaner and more sustainable city”, added the advisor.

According to him, the survey is exclusively for residents of the city of Manaus and the answers obtained are completely confidential, which will be used in statistical data.

With the support of the Laboratory of Applied Thermodynamics (Labtermo/Ufam), the research receives financial support from the Research Support Foundation of the State of Amazonas (Fapeam).
