Daniela Carneiro sets up a meeting and must resign from her position – 07/06/2023 – Politics

Daniela Carneiro (Tourism) invited officials and employees of the Ministry of Tourism to a meeting at 5 pm this Thursday (6).

The expectation is that she will take stock of this period in which she was in charge of the portfolio and thus mark the end of this cycle of just over six months.

Before the meeting with Tourism officials, the minister should go, around 3 pm, to the Planalto Palace for a conversation with President Lula (PT).

Government members expect the Minister of Tourism, Daniela Carneiro, to deliver her resignation letter at the meeting with Lula. The mayor of Belford Roxo (RJ), Waguinho (Republicans), Daniela’s husband, will also be at Planalto.

Lula’s assistants claim that deputy Celso Sabino (União Brasil-PA) to replace her could take place shortly after the meeting between Lula and the minister. Sabino was nominated by the União Brasil bench in the Chamber. He is an ally of the President of the House, Arthur Lira (PP-AL).

The agreement that the minister will deliver a letter leaving the position available occurred in meetings this Tuesday (4) and Wednesday (5) between Waguinho and minister Alexandre Padilha (Institutional Relations). At the time, members of the government suggested that Daniela make the gesture to Lula.

In exchange for leaving office, Daniela must be named deputy leader of the government in Congress or in the Chamber of Deputies. In addition, Lula should go to Rio de Janeiro to inaugurate work on a federal science and education institute alongside Waguinho.

The mayor also asked Planalto for speed and commitment in the distribution of parliamentary amendments to his political group and hopes that they can especially benefit the construction of a hospital for the treatment of cancer that has already been announced by Waguinho.

Palacianos said on Tuesday (4) that the exchange could only be formalized next week, as the president wanted to meet with the top of União Brasil. Senator Davi Alcolumbre (União Brasil-AP), one of the party’s exponents, is on a trip and will only return this Thursday.

The pressure for there to be a change in Tourism, however, increased throughout the day, in a crucial week of voting on economic agendas for the government in the National Congress. Lula released a batch of R$ 2.1 billion in parliamentary amendments and broke a new record for the release of funds.

Daniela asked to disaffiliate from União Brasil in April, which increased tensions between Planalto and the acronym, which linked the minister’s nomination for the position to President Lula’s quota.

The caption bench in the Chamber also asks for the presidency of Embratur (tourism promotion agency), the command and directors of the Post Office.

It was expected that the president would dismiss her last month, which did not happen – she gained survival in office, increasing the time to define how she would leave office and make it possible for a meeting between the PT and Sabino.
