In addition to fresh fruit, products derived from fruit pulp also stand out at the fairs held weekly in Manaus.

Manaus (AM) — Consumers at the State Government’s traditional Regional Product Fairs, managed by the Amazonas Sustainable Development Agency (ADS), will be able to easily find cupuaçu this week. A unit of the fruit, rich in vitamins, is being sold from R$5. Sweets and other derivatives range between R$4 and R$17.

In Amazonas, more than four thousand producers cultivate cupuaçu, with emphasis on the largest production in the municipalities of Presidente Figueiredo, Novo Remanso and Autazes, according to data from the Institute for Sustainable Agricultural and Forestry Development of the State of Amazonas (Idam).

Producer Samuel Glória, from Rio Preto da Eva (57 kilometers from Manaus), sells the fruit at markets in the capital of Amazonas and highlights that the space made available by ADS is the opportunity to sell production and guarantee income.

“Cupuaçu, like other fruits, also suffered delays and a drop in productivity, due to the drought in 2023 that harmed us. But, we have it at the fair, selling it there until the end of April”,

highlighted.

“Last year, all agricultural crops exploited in Amazonas suffered a drop in productivity. This was due to the lack of rain and lack of water in the soil. This situation resulted in a drastic reduction in agricultural productivity. Furthermore, these factors contributed to the emergence of pests and diseases, forcing plants to adapt to new conditions,”

explained Haroldo Cunha, head of the agricultural and fishing business department at ADS.

With fruit derivatives, the Sabores Amazônicos stand has been winning over the palates of Manaus and tourists, who visit the ADS fairs held at Manaus Plaza Shopping and Shopping Ponta Negra. In total, the stand offers more than seven products derived from cupuaçu.

Marketer Gillane Buzaglo talks about the sales success of product options made from fruit pulp, which ranges from biscuits to crystallized sweets, the popular jujube.

“Here at Banca Sabor Amazônico, we have cupuaçu derivatives: truffle, candy, jelly, sweets, biscuits, crystallized sweets and cocada. All are made with cupuaçu by hand. Our customers love these delicacies and even take them outside of Brazil”,

highlighted.
