Critical blood supply at the end of the year makes Hemoam appeal for donors

To be a donor, you just need to be in good health, between 18 and 69 years old and weigh more than 50 kilos.

Manaus (AM) – With a low blood supply in the week leading up to the New Year celebrations, the Amazonas Hematology and Hemotherapy Hospital Foundation (Hemoam) appeals to blood donors of all blood types to come to the collection unit to replenish reserves of the blood center during this period.

Donors can come to Hemoam, which is located on Avenida Constantino Nery, nº 4397, Chapada neighborhood, Zona Centro-Sul. The blood center will be open every day this week, from 7am to 6pm, closing only next Monday (1st).

To be a donor, you just need to be in good health, between 18 and 69 years old and weigh more than 50 kilos. If you are between 16 and 17 years old, you can only donate accompanied by a guardian or legal representative. It is also important to be well fed and have an official identity document with a photo (RG, CNH, passport or work card)

In the last week before New Year’s Eve, the demand for blood bags increases significantly, due to end-of-year events, when there is generally an increase in traffic accidents. Parallel to this, there is a low frequency of blood donors at the blood center, due to the vacation period, travel and parties.

“Last week we had days with only 140 donations and our daily target is 250. So, we make this special request to donors, because our demand tends to increase due to the high number of transfusions during the season. We need donors to avoid shortages”,

explained fundraising manager Nívia França.
