Maia says there is no connection between 8/01 attacks and jewelry sales

Brasilia DF) – The Joint Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPMI) on Coup Acts should not break the secrecy of former president Jair Bolsonaro and former first lady, Michelle, nor investigate the case of the jewels. At least that is the determination of the chairman of the committee, Deputy Arthur Maia (União-Bahia). For him, there is no connection between the attacks and the sale of the jewels.

“Anyone here, in their right mind, going to imagine that President Bolsonaro was there sending PIX from his account to sponsor the invasion of the Planalto Palace and the National Congress, on January 8? Obviously not. Unless the CPI arrives at some connection that can demonstrate that there was some type of action of this nature, I don’t see the sense in you breaking confidentiality just because you are the former President of the Republic. So, if you want to do a CPI to discuss gifts from a former president, Rolex sales, jewelry business, do another CPI”,

stated Maya.

Maia made the statement this Wednesday (23), after meeting with the General Commander of the Army, General Tomás Paiva, at the Army HQ in Brasília. The meeting took place at the request of Maia himself, one day after a tense meeting at the CPMI, when the government and the opposition came to blows over disagreements over which requirements should be voted on and the session was suspended.

Among them, the request that requests the summoning and breach of secrecy of deputy Carla Zambeli. Maia said that voting on this secrecy requirement is important because of her connection with the hacker Walter Delgatti. The rapporteur also said that the summons could be discussed at a later stage, after the arrival of the secrecy documents.

As for the meeting with the general commander at the Army HQ, Arthur Maia guaranteed that he did not hear a request to give special treatment to anyone or to stop calling certain people.

“Absolutely no order. On the contrary, from what I heard repeatedly from the commander, it is for the CPMI to fulfill its role. Because what matters, in fact, to the Brazilian Armed Forces is to show what was the role of commitment to democratic institutions, the Constitution, that the Armed Forces fulfilled”.

For this Thursday (24) is scheduled the meeting to vote on requirements. Meeting that should be quick and take place “on the basis of order”, according to Arthur Maia. Also tomorrow, parliamentarians will hear from Sargento dos Reis, who worked on the team of former president Jair Bolsonaro’s assistants; and, according to a report by the Council for the Control of Financial Activities (Coaf), there would have been an atypical movement for income. The deposition is scheduled for nine o’clock in the morning.
