CPI president wants to know if there was a coup attempt – 05/21/2023 – Panel

For Arthur Maia (União-BA), likely president of the CPMI on January 8, the central point of the collegiate should be to clarify whether the attacks on the Three Powers were, in fact, a coup attempt.
“We need to clarify for Brazil, to record in history what actually happened that day. We cannot trivialize and think that it was a normal thing to invade Congress, the Federal Supreme Court, the headquarters of the Executive, destroy everything. Even more so because there are claims that it was an attempted coup d’état”, he says.
The deputy makes an analogy with a break-in. “If you arrive at your house and the door is broken into, you don’t just fix the door. You go after to understand what happened.”
Maia says he is aware of the possibility of the CPMI carrying out the same itinerary as the investigations conducted by the PF (Federal Police) and the PGR (Attorney General of the Republic). The difference, he argues, is that the collegiate is able to provide transparency and carry out the work in a “public square”.
