Brasilia DF) – Voting on the final report of the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI), which investigates the activities of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), will take place this Tuesday (12), at 11am. The document was presented by senator Márcio Bittar (União-AC), CPI rapporteur.
The report contains suggestions for six projects and a request for the indictment of Mauro Oliveira Pires, president of the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio), for passive corruption and administrative improbity.
“I find it difficult to make reservations because we are in agreement with the rapporteur”, highlighted the president of the CPI, senator Plínio Valério (PSDB-AM).
Among the suggestions are proposals for transparency and accountability and reports that regulate economic activities in indigenous territory.
The CPI rapporteur pointed out, in the document, that the president of ICMBio committed infractions when providing environmental licensing consultancy through the company Canumã, of which he was a partner while he was a licensed public servant at the institute.
Furthermore, he indicated that environmental preservation organizations “instigate and sponsor” attorneys and prosecutors to seek in court the suspension of works that could affect the environment in the North region. In addition to accusing ICMBio and Ibama of delaying infrastructure construction due to the delay in granting environmental licenses.
If approved, the indictment request will be presented to the Federal District Attorney’s Office, which may or may not accept the CPI’s conclusion.
