CPI: Find out who visited Mauro Cid in prison – 7/11/2023 – Power

Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid, former President Jair Bolsonaro’s (PL) main assistant, has received visits from at least 73 people since he was arrested in May. The list was obtained by the CPI on the 8th of January, where the military gives testimony this Tuesday (11).

One of the visitors was Army Colonel Jean Lawand Júnior, Cid’s main interlocutor in the messages highlighted by the Federal Police after Lula’s (PT) victory.

Lawand insistently asks the then aide-de-camp to guide Bolsonaro to strike a blow against democracy: “Convince 01 to save this country!”, he wrote. During his testimony to the CPI, last month, the colonel said that he asked Cid for a “appeasing” word from the former president.

The list obtained by the CPI also indicates that Cid was visited by General Júlio César de Arruda. He was dismissed from command of the army by Lula in January, less than a month after taking office. The document does not detail the date of the visits.

Cid was also visited by former ministers of the Bolsonaro government Eduardo Pazuello —now federal deputy for the PL of Rio de Janeiro— and Fábio Wajngarten, former secretary of Communication of the Presidency. The visit of the two was questioned by the rapporteur, senator Eliziane Gama (PSD-MA), during this Tuesday’s session.

“Mr. Mauro Cid, I had access to the list of visitors that you, in fact, have been receiving. Now, lately, you are receiving more family members. I ask you: why did Eduardo Pazuello go to visit you?”, asked the senator.

“Senator, again I reiterate my initial manifestations within the scope of the investigations to which I am submitted. So, due to habeas corpus and advice from my technical defense, I will remain silent”, replied Cid.

Cid told the CPI that he is the target of at least eight criminal investigations and was instructed by the defense to use his habeas corpus. The Minister of the STF (Federal Supreme Court) Cármen Lúcia understood that he should go to the session, but could remain silent so as not to produce evidence against himself.

The military man was arrested preventively as part of the investigation into the forgery of his vaccination card, that of his wife, Bolsonaro’s youngest daughter and the former president himself. He is being held at the Brasília Army Police Battalion.

The list also indicates visits from family members, such as his wife, Gabriela Cid, and father, General Mauro Cid. The document points out that Cid was also visited by General Ridauto Lúcio Fernandes, former Director of Logistics at the Ministry of Health. Pazuello’s right-hand man in the portfolio, Ridauto participated in the January 8 coup act.

This Tuesday, Wajngarten came out in defense of Cid. The former secretary told Sheet that Cid has been in prison for 70 days “without any reason justifying his preventive detention”. “For everyone to understand, this is about locking someone up and throwing away the key,” he declared.
